Over the years, heavy metal has become a kind of music traditionalist and conservative. There are few songs that move us or cause a feeling of struggle, unity, humanity, revolt. Talking about politics, not only with the Brazilian head bangers, but with all the Brazilian people, is a very hard thing to do.

After passing a dictatorship of the military regime which lasted from the years 1964 to 1985, established itself as a concept in the lives of Brazilian politics was something that should not be discussed. However, the fact of not discussing politics, took over 15 years of financial difficulty for the country.

I stop and think: What was the mission of rock and heavy metal during those 15 years? How many bands in Brazil were able to pass the message of freedom and democracy? Many Brazilians maybe not think like me, but just watch the video and observe the lyrics;

The Chthonic is a black metal band that gives us a history lesson and democracy lesson. I would like to see a band of these here in Brazil.

Chthonic: "Taiwan Metal"

For Brazilians who bought their toys from Saint Seya in mid-1995, Bandai's where the realand the second line was Made in Taiwann, I will resubmit the response from "Beautiful Island" (meaning Taiwan) with the current and surprising Chthonic .


Since its participation as first eastern band at Ozzfest 2007, much has been said about the Chthonic, including in Brazil. At the time, the current album was the mystic Seediq Bale would be the first step of a very competent trilogy.


The first impression on Seediq Bale is that there is another Cradle of Filth. And they are Asian. However this is only a slight impression. The truth is that the levels reached on Chthonic melodic, mystical, which conceptual and structural of Cradle of Filth is far away.


After the impressive "Seediq Bale," the Taiwanese launched in 2009 the technical and obscure, "Mirror of Retribution" while maintaining its good structural and surprising the listener with a series of changes between light and heavy, melancholy and rage.


And in July 2011 with the release of Takasago Army, signed the Chthonic beliefs keeping the musical evolution that followed each album. This results in a break with the traditional black metal content. The Taiwanese have on issues such as freedom, democracy, patriotism and heroism, all in a cauldron full of oriental culture where Taiwanese heavy guitars, two strings violins and aborigines vocals are in harmony.

In the clip Takao, we can experience new perspectives, or hardly worked on the Extreme/Black Metal. This shows us that there is no label for the sound, but a good concept for an artwork.

CHTHONIC 'Souls Reposed' Trilogy

Seediq Bale(2007), Mirror of Retribution(2009), and Takasago Army(2011)

On the island of Taiwan, the indigenous Seediq Tribe lives high on Mount Wushe. They are fabled to have been borne from the fusion of giant trees and huge rocks thousands of years ago. Only those tribesmen who have survived a severe trial earn the honor to be tattooed on the face and become a "Seediq Bale" (or real Seediq).  These marks, too, signify that they may one day cross the rainbow bridge to join with the ancestors' ancient souls and receive eternal life. 

In 1895, the Japanese Empire began to govern its new colony, Taiwan. The forested mountains, the lands of the ancestral spirits, were scarred by the colonizers' demand for the harvest of the stately camphor trees.  Chief Mona Rudao led his people to submit to the well-armed Japanese authorities in order to survive the oppression.
